We complete our casting of resin panels to use in the elemental lamp. One more example of the casting process, and a review of the entire experience and results. PAM, or mold release, is not really efficient in the casting process as it causes occlusion.

ModShapes is about product design and making things. We started out making bespoke stands for vapes.

The process of casting resin: mix parts 1:1 by volume

I like to mix around 1 oz of each part twice, in two different cups. I like to let the bubbles rise a bit in the first batch while I mix the second batch.

Pour the resin into the mold, and then help the bubbles escape via the use of a hot air gun or a lighter.

I typically check castings about 5 hours after the pour. Today we went to the park, then Harbor Freight, and then saw a wild man pop a wheelie on a motorbike at a red light! It was a pretty great adventure.

The mold has been cast into 6 times, and this will be the final casting!
